Image Description
This drawing of an octopus is drawn with soft pencils (4B and 6B) on paper (170 g/m²). The motif is also exciting because the tentacles are partly brightly illuminated (white) or deeply shadowed (black). So while drawing I had to blend a lot to show the transitions between light and shadow realistically.
The drawing process took about 2.5 hours. I had drawn this live on Twitch at the time. The method I use to create such realistic drawings is always very similar in the process
.- First I draw with a soft pencil darks, so shades, in the image. .
- In the next step, I blur these darks to make the transitions soft and clean.
- Followed by this, I use various erasers (pencil eraser, eraser as well as kneaded eraser) to lighten the bright parts, which are shone by the light again.
This process is usually repeated 4 to 5 times, with each new phase I draw finer and more detailed. In the end, one has then - quasi automatically and without major problems - a realistic drawing. The entire process I have also described in my Ebook "Learn to draw realistically" in detail.
